[Basic] The Passover (1) - The Origin of the Passover

The Passover(1)

The Origin of the Passover

How important do you think 'promise' is? Some say that the promise must be taken seriously and be kept and some say that the promise is occasionally made to be broken. Which one do you agree with?

In the Bible God promised us to give eternal life through the Passover. He uttered the word, 'giving eternal life' as the promise.

1Jn 2:5 And this is what he promised us--even eternal life.

Then how can we get eternal  life through the Passover and  how was the Passover made by God?
There had been an amazing history of the salvation dating back to the era of Exodus from Egypt and it is the origin of the Passover.

Ex 12:12~15 On that same night - the fourteenth day of the first month on the sacred year - I will pass through Egypt and strike down every firstborn, both men and animals, and I will bring judgment on all the gods of Egypt. I am the LORD. This is a day you are to commemorate for the generations to come you shall celebrate it as a festival to the LORD, a lasting ordinance.

In the Old Testament times, whenever the Israelites kept the Passover they were blessed in all the way to Canaan with no harm and danger from their enemies. That was the distinctive promise between God and His people.
How about in the New Testament times? Christ Jesus also mentioned the Passover when He instructed His disciples to set the table of the last supper the day before He would crucify on the cross so that His people will get eternal life by eating His flesh and drinking His blood. That was the distinctive promise, the New Covenant, between Jesus and His people.

Mt 26:26~28 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, "Take and eat; this is my body." Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, saying, "Drink it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.

We, as God's people, must keep the Passover until the end that God promised us to give eternal life. It has been more than 3,500 years since the Passover had been made between God and His people as PROMISE.
