[Basic] The Passover (2) - The Passover, God's First Commandment

Usually people know that God's first commandment is to worship only God based on Ten Commandment of Moses.

Ex 20:3 "You shall have no other gods before me."

Yes, it is true. Then I want to ask them how they can prove to worship only God and how much they assure that God approves of them.

In the New Testament times when one of the Pharisees who was an expert in the law tested Him what was the first and greatest commandment, Jesus answered them as follows:

Mt 22:36~37 Jesus replied: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment."

Between the words from God the Father and from Jesus look different but the same.

The way to keep the first commandment that we shall have no other gods before God the Father in the time of Moses and the way to keep the first and greatest commandment that we love the Lord our God with all our heart and soul and mind is the same; that is to keep the Passover.

Through the Passover, LORD God stroke down throughout the land of slavery and brought judgment on all the gods of Egypt and at last Israelites could worship only God. They witnessed the first commandment was fulfilled.

Mt 26:26~28 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, "Take and eat; this is my body." Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, saying, "Drink it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.

Through the Passover, Jesus praises us that we do love Him with all our heart, soul and mind. It is the essential word of observance that the sign on our hand and the reminder on our forehead given by God we are to keep year after year until we go the kingdom of heaven.
