[Basic] The Passover (7) - The Passover, the New Covenant

All Christians who're believing in God, both the Catholic churches and the Protestant churches, acknowledge that the old covenant was made with God the Father in the Old Testament times and the new covenant was made with Jesus in the New Testament times. Also they boast by themselves that they keep Moses' Ten Commandment which was regarded as the old covenant but they don't know about the new covenant exactly.

Then what is the new covenant? Jesus Christ mentioned it for the first time on the day of the Passover.

Lk 22:19~20 And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, "This in my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me." In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, "This is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.

Then what is the Passover regarded as the new covenant? It is the most important God's feast through which His people is saved and freed from their sins and death.

Jesus told that there had been wrong with the first covenant, the old covenant, because it couldn't get the Israelites to have everlasting rest and He sought for another covenant and established the new covenant according to the prophecy that God would make a new covenant with His people so that it get them free and repent their sins.

Mt 26:26~28 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, "Take and eat; this is my body." Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, saying, "Drink it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.

The old covenant has been passed away long time ago and the new covenant was established by Jesus on the day of the Passover. From then on, God's people should keep the Passover which is the core truth of the new covenant.

If the new covenant hadn't been taken away we would have slaughtered sheep or goat in every service and sprinkled the blood in the sanctuary being still remained on the chain of fear of death. I'd like to give eternal thanks to God that He made the new covenant with me and has me keep the Passover, the new covenant.
